GSS determines what items to accept in our containers based on the type of waste accepted by the local landfills. Since our dumpsters are designed primarily for commercial and residential projects, we typically dump at landfills that only accept construction and demolition debris. There are many landfills that accept household waste, burned material, hazardous waste and medical waste. And of course there are recycling centers around the area that accept chemicals, tires, batteries and other recyclable items that aren’t accepted by any modern day landfills. If prior arrangements are made, we can work with our customers to dispose of some household waste and burn material. But we must know in advance.
When someone has disposed of prohibited material in a dumpster, a few things can happen. If the mistake is caught before the dumpster has been removed from the job site, if there is only a small amount of debris in the dumpster and if someone is on site to help the driver remove the items from the container, it is an easy fix and no additional fees will be charged. If the prohibited material isn’t noticed upon removal of the container, chances are high that it will be discovered at the landfill. Some landfills do random inspections of trucks and will reject dump loads containing prohibited material. If the prohibited material is not noticed until the dumpster is being emptied, the landfill officials can stop the dump, require the driver to reload the waste that was already dumped and reject the load. The last two situations are extremely costly and can result in additional fees to GSS and the customer.
These situations can be avoided if we are given prior notice so that arrangements can be made to properly dispose of some of the materials we don’t normally accept. Still, there are certain types of waste we don’t haul at all such as medical and hazardous waste or chemicals. In these situations, we will do our best to help the customer find an acceptable recycling solution or locate a waste hauling company who specializes in these types of loads. Our goal is to keep costs down so we can provide an affordable dumpster rental service to our customers. If you have questions about any items of which you are disposing, just give us a call. We want the job (our job and yours) to go as smoothly as possible and will help in any way we can.
