This series of articles was intended to address the issue of tire disposal in the Greater Houston Area. However, it seems more appropriate to include suggestions for the disposal of many items not permitted in GSS’ roll offs. So from here on out, we will include suggestions for recycling or safe disposal alternatives for other items as well. We’ll offer as much information as possible to help answer questions regarding where and how to properly dispose of some of these items.
Please note, as we get into recycling options for more rural areas, our choices become somewhat limited. But we’ll do our best to find and share as much information with you as possible. So let’s get right to it and start with options for Bellville, Columbus and Brenham, TX.

First & Third Saturdays: 8 am – 12 noon
This center accepts oil and batteries at no charge, and tires for a minimal fee. Fees are not listed on their website so call for confirmation and payment options before you go. This center is for residents inside the city limits of Bellville, TX so be sure to take a City utility bill.
City of Columbus Recycling Program
1427 B Montezuma St.

(Behind the soccer fields at the community Park)
979-732-2366
Website
Hours:

Saturdays: 8 am – 12 pm
Items collected include used oil and oil filters, as well as appliances that do not contain freon. Unfortunately, tires are not accepted for recycling at this time. We spoke to someone at the city and they suggested calling the local tire shops. We were advised that for a fee, some might be willing to take a few tires and dispose of them for you.
This program is free to the residents of Columbus TX. A current city utility bill and some form of identification is required to participate. Which means, unfortunately, those living outside the city limits may not take part in this program.
City of Brenham Recycling Center
307 South Market St.
Brenham, TX 77833
979-337-7455
Price List
Hours:
Monday thru Friday: 8 am – 5pm
Saturday: 8 am – 1 pm
The center accept tires, some batteries, old motor oil and filters. Call or check the price list above for recycling fees. This program is NOT limited to Brenham residents. This is great news for folks in surrounding counties like Colorado County and Austin County who are not able to participate in other recycling programs due to residency requirements.
As you can see, the rural areas have fewer options for disposal in the way of recycling. We will be updating this post or adding a new post with more locations soon. It takes quite a bit of research to discover some of the recycling centers. Let us do the work for you. If you would like more information on responsible disposal and recycling of any item that is prohibited in our roll off dumpsters, please leave us a quick comment or email us at info@gssdumpsters.com.
Until next time, everybody take care.
